The Optoma HD600x shows that the first thing users notice is how small this unit is. With a footprint even smaller than an A4 paper, it would easily fit on the bookshelf or coffee table. Because the zoom range is quite narrow position is critical and therefore a ceiling mount is recommended, if you want to go without keystone correction which decreases projection quality.

Next, let’s look at the image quality. The contrast and black level is very good (rated at 3500:1) and the brightness shines with 1600 lumens. There is also a brilliant colour setting, which can be increased or decreased according to taste. Colours are vivid without looking not natural anymore. What are the cons that we need to highlight in this Optoma HD600x review? Most users see the rainbow effect as not alarming. Most of the time, you’ll not notice any image problems at all but occasionally, in scenes featuring bright images and graduated colours such as sky, snow, clouds etc. you’ll notice what I can only describe as solarisation. Turning off brilliant colour mode will eliminate this problem. Saying that, for many if not most movies you’ll probably not notice any problems.

One user found the fan to be quite loud especially in bright mode. This can’t be anything too serious especially if you are using it with a home cinema surround sound system. It does have a built in speaker but don’t expect hi-fi quality sound.

The biggest selling point though has to be its 3D capability. It is marked as 3D ready, working with a particular Nvidia graphic card equipped computer. For 3D on Sky or Blu-Ray there is a separate 3D-XL Adapter available, giving you total 3D compatibility. This is actually a very cheap option for a 3D home theatre and much cheaper than pretty much any 50″ 3D TV.
